Stenosing tenosynovitis, commonly known as “trigger finger,” is a condition that involves the tendons located within the finger. The tendons located in the finger are held close to the bone by a series of pulleys which allows the tendons to glide easily when gripping or grabbing. Trigger finger occurs when the pulleys become thickened, preventing the tendons from gliding easily. Orlando Hand Surgery Associates can assist you with a trigger finger treatment plan. Causes of Trigger Finger

While in most cases the cause of trigger finger is unknown, it has been associated with several conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and diabetes.

Symptoms of Trigger Finger

Trigger fingers can cause a great amount of pain on the base of the finger and it also may cause popping, catching, and limited finger movement.

How to Treat Trigger Finger

Trigger Finger treatment doesn’t have to be difficult. Four of the more common treatments are below.

• Anti-inflammatory medication can assist with the pain
• Gentle stretching at home, which would consist of locking the affected finger together with a finger from the opposite hand and gently stretching the fingers apart. See video for a demonstration.
• Ask a hand specialist if you are eligible to receive a corticosteroid injection into the area of the pain. This is usually an extremely effective treatment measure.
• We may recommend a small surgery if the corticosteroid injection does not resolve the issue.
